High Cholesterol, Heart Disease and Testosterone

The leading cause of death in the United States is heart disease. Despite spending more than $11 billion every year on cholesterol medications, heart disease continues to affect millions of Americans, older men in particular. Studies show that men who have low levels of testosterone as they grow older increase their risk for heart disease from high cholesterol. Why that happens is based on the function of high-density (HDL) and low-density (LDL) lipoproteins.

HDL is known as the “good” cholesterol because it enables lipids like cholesterol to be transported within the water-based bloodstream to the liver where it can be safely removed from the body. LDL’s are the opposite and are considered the “bad” protein since its function is to transport cholesterol from the liver to the arteries. This ongoing battle continues into maturity but as men age they also face the added risk of low testosterone levels which can inhibit the success of HDL in removing cholesterol from the arteries. If the HDL can’t properly process cholesterol to the liver this creates high cholesterol since the LDL’s are still moving cholesterol in, it’s that the HDL can’t move it out.

The Dangers of High Cholesterol:

  • Heart Attack
  • Stroke
  • Aortic Aneurysm

  • Shortness of Breath
  • Obesity
  • Chest Pain

How Ripped Rooster Can Help

It’s well known that the older we get the more at-risk we become for certain illnesses and debilitating conditions and high cholesterol and heart disease are in that category. Men who have low levels of testosterone face greater obstacles since their lack of testosterone is leading to higher cholesterol levels and the chance of heart disease. High cholesterol can lead directly to clogged arteries and the sooner you take steps to lower your cholesterol the healthier you will be.

As men grow older it is important for them to monitor their cholesterol levels as well as their testosterone. If you have low levels of testosterone it is recommended you increase your natural testosterone back to a healthy level and using Total Testosterone may help you achieve this. By increasing your testosterone levels you may be able to help prevent strokes and heart disease and having to rely on medications in the future.
